The Whippet is a 10cc flathead, single cylinder, 4 stroke, internal combustion, water-cooled engine. It is made by ENJOMOR, China.
A flathead engine, also known as a side valve engine or valve-in-block engine is an internal combustion engine with its poppet valves contained within the engine block, instead of in the cylinder head, as in an overhead valve engine.
Flatheads were widely used internationally by automobile manufactures from the late 1890s until the mid-1950s but were replaced by more efficient overhead valve and overhead camshaft engines. They are currently experiencing a revival in low-revving aero-engines such as the D-Motor.
Features:
This engine is based on the Whippet engine designed by Englishman Edgar T. Westbury (ETW) in 1963 for use in scale model boats. The flat head side valve design gives the four-stroke engine a unique compact appearance. Water cooling and an independent lubrication system enable the engine to operate for a prolonged duration.
The main body is cast aluminium and power coated in retro industrial green paint. The integrated crankshaft is hardened steel.
The engine can be used as originally designed in RC model boats as well as other applications such as driving a dynamo or water pump.
The engine is new and unused in original packaging, comes with an ignition system and all parts to run, apart from a battery pack, see photo. Some simple assembly needed - ignition, carb, fuel and exhaust.
